C IS FOR CREATIVITY

If you can speak, you can tell a story. If you can write, you can
certainly write a story.

True, not all of us develop the writers in us. We all grow and mature
as people with and in different professions. However, the ability to
write and narrate a story is an innate characteristic of each and every one of us.
We all have a creative side. That's what our right brains do. If you're an aspiring
writer, you should try to learn as much as you can about honing your creativity.

All you need to kick your creativity into gear are determination, imagination,
         inspiration and some prodding.

Determination goes hand in hand with establishing a writing pattern. You shouldn't
only write when you feel like writing. What would you do those times when you
         don't feel like writing?

A writer writes no matter what he feels and what his current condition
is. It doesn't matter if you're only able to write a measly paragraph for
the day. Or two sentences the next day. Or three paragraphs the next.
The important thing is that you write something everyday.

In the long run, you will establish a writing pattern and soon enough,
you will discover that you can fill a page or write a whole chapter in
a day even if you aren't in the mood to write. Writing will come easily for you.

Every creative writer dreams of being published. I'm sure you dream of having
one of your poems or stories published one day. Here's where determination
comes in too. I don't think a person who calls himself a writer could honestly say
that not once in his life did he get a rejection letter. A rejection letter doesn't
mean the end of the world. Or your writing career either. Oftentimes, these
rejection letters push the writer to write better and work on his writing. One
rejection simply means that your story is waiting to be published by someone else,
and not because your story is not good enough.

A good dose of imagination in your part is needed for you to be able
to write your story creatively. If you're writing a story, the people in
your story are you characters; the events are your own making.

When you have a story to tell, how do you tell it? Do you tell it straight
up, without suspense, and as bland as you could make it out to be? Of
course not! You will provide twists and turns. You will make your readers
ask, "What's going to happen next?"

You will describe the place so vividly your readers will feel as if they're actually
there with your characters. You will make your characters as three-dimensional as
possible. You will make them interesting and realistic that your readers will be
able to sympathize and relate to them. If you have a villain, you will be able to
make your readers hate your villain. If you have two people destined to fall in
love, your readers will be able to fall in love with them. All you need to have to
achieve this is a very imaginative mind.

Writing inspirations can also help you to unleash your creativity. These
inspirations may be in the form of peer support, a meaningful quote, a
story from another writer, your experience or another writer's or
special events and occasions. You can use these sources of inspirations
to write your stories.

Some writers need very little prodding in order to get them to write.
Others may need very hard kicks. A lot of writers certainly get inspired to write
when they receive praises or good feedback about their work, although some
writers are able to produce their best work when they're out to prove their
abilities after getting put-downs and negative criticisms from others.

If you're just beginning to dive into creative writing, you will enjoy and learn
from the activities in this book. You will be given creative writing ideas and
         exercises to jumpstart your creativity.

The exercises here are only a few of the hundreds of creative writing exercises,
ideas and prompts available for you. At the end of this book, you will find a
wealth of resources on the Internet that offers creative writing workshops,
exercises and prompts. I will also be coming out with a book containing 365
creative writing prompts and exercises for you. That's one creative exercise for
         each day of the year.
